Audience: The masterclass is intended for enterprise, business and solution architects who want to get acquainted with the main elements of the ArchiMate language and can be used as a precursor to a more extensive course. It is content-rich and will be delivered at speed, providing the audience with a tightly packed, intensive day.
In the masterclass, you will see how ArchiMate can be used in the entire architecture trajectory, from stakeholder analysis and business requirements, via the architecture of your business processes, information systems and infrastructure, down to implementation and migration. The masterclass has an interactive character; you will be working with an example case to experience ArchiMate hands-on and there will be ample room for questions and discussion.
Specifically, this masterclass will cover the new version 3.0 of the ArchiMate standard. In this most recent version, ArchiMate has been extended with various concepts that help enterprise architects tackle challenges in digital transformation and business change. This major new version introduces explicit support for capability-based planning, and improves linkage between business strategy and all architecture layers.
ArchiMate 3.0 also enables modelers to describe the Internet of Things and the systems of the physical world, making the standard even more relevant for domains such as healthcare, manufacturing and logistics. We will present the most important additions and improvements that have been made to the language and outline the reasoning behind these improvements.
To illustrate the use of ArchiMate, we will use several example cases. First, we will show how the trajectory of strategy execution is facilitated by the use of models for describing your strategy, capabilities, enterprise architecture, and portfolios. Enterprise architecture models ensure consistency and facilitate planning. Adding relevant data to these models allows you to perform various types of analyses, supporting decision makers with dashboards to visualize e.g. costs, risks and business value at different levels.
The second use case focuses on the upcoming General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), a stringent EU Regulation on privacy protection, which will go into effect in May 2018. From then on, an organization can be fined up to 4% of its revenue if it fails to sufficiently protect personal data on EU residents, even if it is not located within the EU. We will discuss how architects are uniquely positioned to help their organizations address this wide-ranging topic. We will show how model-based risk and security analyses can be used in security-by-design, data protection impact assessments and demonstrating regulatory compliance.
